Dave Clary (Deacon)

Born North London 11/01/44

Moved to Oadby 17/08/70 due to promotion/re-location to Leicester with job.

Occupation: Insurance specialist.

When I moved to Oadby I was married but we divorced in 1981.

I have 3 children, Sharon (Oct 66), Catherine (Sep 68) and Steven (Jul 71). Sharon and Steven each have a son and a daughter.

I changed firms to a better job/prospects Oct 83 and started commuting to London.

On the train, a group of us used to travel together. After about 5 years, a lady that I used to work with in Leicester, Joanne, joined us as she had also taken a job in London.

She lived in Loughborough so was already on the train when we got on. She introduced us to a friend of hers, Keren, who also lived in Loughborough and commuted to London, working in the oil industry. Keren was a Christian and over the months, her testimony enabled Joanne to attend her church in Loughborough and Joanne also became a Christian.

I could tell from their conversation that their lives were totally different to mine and they had so much love and care for everybody.

Quite often Joanne caught a different train and Keren and I had long conversations about her beliefs and she lent me various books and leaflets about what it means to be a Christian and the way of becoming one.

After a while, I felt that I really needed and wanted the Lord Jesus in my life and on 8th July 92, I knelt and prayed and asked Jesus into my life and asked him for forgiveness for all of my sins and I have not looked back.

In Sep 92, I went to the ‘Christ is the Answer’ meeting at the Oadby racecourse. I didn’t know anyone there so when the meeting finished I made my way out and the doorman engaged me in conversation and asked which chuch I attended and when I said that I was looking for a church, he introduced me to two couples who attend OEFC. One of the couples said that they would pick me up on the Sunday and take me to the church and I have been attending ever since.

On 31st Jan 1993 I was baptised and on 15th July 1994 I became a member. On 2nd July 2003 I was appointed as a deacon.

The Lord has bestowed various blessings upon me - 3 days after asking Jesus into my life, I went to Brixham with a friend for a week and on the penultimate day, I twisted my ankle and tore a cartilage. My ankle swelled and despite icepack treatment at the hotel, it was still swollen the next day but I managed to drive home despite the pain. On the Monday on the train I showed the swollen ankle to Keren which was black, purple, yellow - all colours. The next day, all the colours had gone and the swelling had gone - I told Keren and she said that she had prayed for me the previous night.

In 1997 my sister had a huge malignant growth removed along with a lymph gland. Tests in that October showed that she was totally free from any further malignancy. At the same time, my firm had taken over in July the firm that I used to work for in Leicester and the MD said to me that there was no point in my travelling to London to do the job so he transferred my department to the office where I used to work in Leicester.

In July 98 my son had serious back problems due to some deformity and was told that he would always have problems. I paid for some surgical treatment for him and prayed for his recovery. He was able to return to work shortly afterward and the pain has not returned since.

Around the same time, my elder daughter had a large internal growth which was causing her difficulty. I prayed for her situation and she was operated on successfully.

My mother had a continuous pain in her leg after an operation following a serious injury and I prayed for her recovery and the pain went.

These are just a few of the blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon me and I am truly thankful that He called me to be saved.

I now pray that He will save my mother, sister and children and their families.
