Stuart Glover (Elder)

On the 8th October 1976 I was born into, and brought up in, a God fearing home in Wigan, Lancashire. My parents are both Christians and took me to church from an early age. They encouraged me to read my bible and answered any question that I had. Despite the knowledge of the bible and Christianity that I was gaining, I was not a Christian because I did not have a personal relationship with God. It was this crucial factor that I lacked and it was this that God would graciously allow me to develop over the next few years.

My parents ran the Good News Camp for over 30 years, a camp held in a school in Kent for youngsters to have fun and develop a knowledge of Jesus. I attended this camp for many years but it was only in the later years when the spiritual aspect of the camp became very dear to me. These two weeks each year certainly helped me to develop that relationship that I was missing.

I had asked Jesus to be my Saviour when I was about 7 or 8, but it didn’t mean much to me until the middle of my teens. It was then, still encouraged by my parents and helped by the summer camp that I really began to realise that Jesus was not an option, He was a necessity. Without Jesus my sins were not forgiven and there is no other way to have them forgiven.

I was baptised at Grace Baptist Church in Southport on the 28th March 1993. In September 1995, I came to the University of Leicester to study for my degree. I very much enjoyed my time at university and attended OEFC from the November of my first year. After graduation, I remained in Leicester working in the University of Leicester Library. I became a member of OEFC in January 1999. I have developed this web site for the church and over the years have also been involved in the youthwork and with helping to plan various activities of the church. In more recent years I have also been invited to lead some of the Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings, which I enjoy. I was elected to serve as a deacon in May 2004 and then as an elder in May 2007. From September 2005 to June 2007, did the Prepared for Service course that is run by the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, to which OEFC is affiliated.

I am a qualified librarian and work for the National Health Service. Another benefit of attending OEFC was meeting Sarah, whom I married on the 31st May 2003. On 2nd February 2008 by the grace of God, we had a baby boy whom we called Caleb. I am also a very keen fan of Wigan Athletic Football Club and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

I thank God for the opportunity I have had to be associated with this church and the blessings I have received from the ministry, the fellowship with the rest of the congregation and from hearing/seeing the testimony of others. My time in Leicester has been beneficial socially and spiritually, as my faith has been deepened and strengthened since my arrival.

This is all to the glory of God.
