How to get to heaven from Oadby (or anywhere else!)

We are concerned that every resident of Oadby should at least know how to have peace with God and therefore be assured of a place in heaven.

We hope that this little leaflet will be helpful and clear. We are so grateful that someone told each of us.

Yours sincerely, the members of Oadby Evangelical Free Church.

I thought all decent people are going to heaven when they die - what's the problem?

But all of us think, do or say things that are wrong. God is holy and he cannot allow anything wrong to spoil heaven.

But I'm a good living person. I don't steal or mug old people.

But do we love God with all our hearts?..and what about using his name as a swear word?

But I give to charity and I'm religious and I do good whenever I can.

That's very good but it still doesn't deal with the fact of our sinful nature does it? So our way to heaven is still barred.

So are you saying that I'm not good enough to go to heaven? Where will I go then?

The Bible warns us that all who are not fit for heaven will be punished eternally.

The cheek of it! You stand there and say I am going to hell!

The wonderful thing is that you don't have to! God himself has planned a way so you could go to heaven.

So what is God's plan?

We need someone to come from heaven to open up the way. Jesus Christ, God's Son came to do that.

And how did that help?

Jesus Christ came to live the perfect life that you and I find impossible to live...

...the he died on the cross at Calvary and took the punishment for our sin instead of you and me - and opened up the way to heaven!

So where is he now...is he dead?

No! He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death, then returned to God the Father in heaven. He is eager to forgive anyone who sincerely asks him.

So just by asking God for forgiveness means I can go to heaven?

Only as long as it goes along with a genuine sorrow for your sin, believing the Lord Jesus Christ came from heaven to die on the cross in your place.

Can anybody in Oadby go to heaven this way then?

Yes, if they put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. God's love for us is so great that he planned this way for us to escape eternal punishment.

I need to give this some real thought.
It's serious stuff.
Where can I find out more and ask questions?

The Bible is the best place but also through your local church.
