Hi, I'm Paul.
I am married to Jenny, and graciously gave her my surname. She had a choice, I was too young to argue.
I am in my early 40s, I work as a researcher for a children's charity and have been a member at Oadby since 1995.
I grew up in Macclesfield in Cheshire, home of the Silkmen football team, Zeneca Pharmaceuticals and birthplace of Bishop JC Ryle. I studied in Glasgow before coming to Leicester in 1986 where I met Jenny and we were married in 1991. God has blessed us with two children who liven up our lives!
I was brought up by a God fearing mother and moral father, so had strong Christian values practiced all around me. I obediently attended the Elim Church in the town up until the age when pre teens begin to lose interest. A major event was a young pastor and his wife coming to the church, full of infectious enthusiasm and vigour for the gospel and young people. My interest in church increased and at the age of 15 I finally realised that I was a sinner and needed a Saviour. Pastor Brian Grist was preaching on John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
and asking if we could honestly put out name in place of the "whoever". I knew I could not, but needed to. God graciously saved me, and has kept me ever since.
I hope that you will visit us at Oadby Evangelical Free Church if you are ever in the area, and do make yourself known to us. We seek to teach God's Word to His people, and to make His gospel known. This gospel or good news has freed us from all the things that the law of Moses could not - the guilt and power of sin. May we all seek to know Him, and make Him known.
